How to Get the Best From Furniture Consignment Stores

By Mark Jennings

If you like to go buying for second hand stores or furniture consignment stores, you almost certainly know how different they could be. To begin, I would like to point out the main differences concerning the two sort of stores:

In the consignment stores you bring the stuff you need to sell and they put them on sale for you. As soon as they're purchased, they pay you back a proceed from the profit. Whenever after a while the item is not gone yet, they discount it.

Thrift stores, on the other hand, are ran by charity associations. You bring the objects you choose to donate to the store and it sells them retaining all the profit. Sometimes you are able to negotiate a cheaper price but it's nonprofit...I never do it. This is, more or less, exactly how the majority of the consignment and thrift stores function

Talking about retro furniture, I personally choose the furniture consignment stores to find authentic pieces; it is really easy to get great bargains there. The key reason why it might be less difficult to discover big piece of furniture in the consignment stores? The fact is that the big furniture need to be delivered to the store and not everybody own a van. That's the reason why usually consignment stores offer a transportation service especially for furniture and they possibly have fixed days to consolidate the goods. This implies that they have, more or less, fixed days as well to display the furniture in the store! The way you can have extra opportunities to buy the affordable retro furniture you are trying to find is to find out in which days they display the new arrivals.

I found out two methods to do it:

1. Being friendly with the staff members: Becoming friends with the store employees ensures you to discover when they show the latest arrivals and so to figure out the best days to go; being sure to find new furniture and maybe what you are interested in as well. This, also, usually means that you should check-out the store often and if you don't have enough time it can be quite a problem. So here we get to point two!

2. Subscribing the Newsletter: The big consignment stores have a newsletter concerning the newest arrivals in the shop and the special deals. This is a wonderful way to be up to date without the need of checking the store day by day. The problem is that you'll share this information with all the customers that subscribed the newsletter like you. Additionally, the newsletters are sent out few days later the actual arrival of the furniture in the store. Then, it might be too late to find that retro economical living room furniture you were browsing for. So, if you see something yo really like, you've to be quick!
