Affordable Point and Shoot Cameras Defined - Lumix DMC-FH20K

By Jaymes K Dodge

If you search for digital cameras on the web and you'll find hundreds, if not thousands of different models and manufacturers. Their prices can range from as high as 25,000 dollars or as low as 30, depending on where and who you order from. The big issue is that most of us can't afford a 25,000 dollar camera and 30 dollar one isn't likely to provide very good images. As can be a pain in the neck, finding the right type of camera will require you to do a bit research so that you are sure that the camera you are interested in can do everything that you want it to do.

I separate cameras in to three different families. There are differing titles for them, but the most commonly used are pocket, bridge, and DSLR cameras. Pocket cameras are most popular because they are the simplest to use, are normally low priced and provide the buyer with the best bang for their buck, with the others being for the more advanced user. The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FH20K is a member of the pocket family of cameras. These are the basic consumer model of digital cameras sold today. They are also the types which you will see regular folks taking pictures with at weddings, family gatherings, or for other regular every day events.

One of the smartest reasons to buy a point and shoot digital camera is that it does not take a degree in photography to properly use one. This is because they essentially do exactly what they are needed to do by most users. You direct them at the object you want to take a photo of and then push the button to take the photo. Most of the necessary adjustments can be made by a selector wheel and the rest is done by the camera's internal computer chips.

There are also additional advantages to having a point and shoot camera like the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FH20K. These types of digital cameras are readily affordable for most people and will not require to you go to the local pay-day loan shark to pay for it. Most of them come equipped with a lens which will telescope in and out of the outer shell of the device00. This adds some durability to the device because the lens isn't always extended to get banged around on anything. Often the lens will include an automatic lens cover so that you don't have to keep track of a cover that pops on and off.

There are a few disadvantages when comparing these types of cameras to their more expensive brethren though. One of the most complained about issues with a pocket camera is that they lack the ability to capture images of fast moving subjects. Attempting to take a photo of a flying bird or running deer will definitely disappoint the photographer. If you are on a budget but still want to acquire a camera that can capture moving objects, a buyer might be better suited by investing in a bridge camera. These can run anywhere from 400 to 1000 dollars.

Photography is a great hobby to pick up. I personally love going into the woods on my parent's ranch and taking photographs of wildlife and anything that catches my attention. If you are interested in photography and do not want to invest a great deal of money into a hobby that you might just be interested in trying out, a pocket camera like the Lumix DMC-FH20K makes for a great start.
