American Baseball Teams - Who Are The Best Five?

By Mark Walters

Baseball is one of the most popular sports in America with literally millions of fans. As it is so popular, we've put together this guide to take you through some of the most famous American baseball teams. We start with the Los Angeles Dodgers, who are part of Major League Baseball. They were created in 1883 in New York but moved to Los Angeles in 1958, where they have stayed ever since. They play at Dodger stadium, which is one of the oldest stadiums in the Major League.

The New York Yankees are also members of the Major League and, while they were founded in Baltimore in Maryland, they moved to the Bronx in New York City two years later. They have always played at stadiums called Yankee Stadium, although they actually moved locations in 2009. They are one of the most famous baseball teams out there and have won more titles than almost any other US baseball team around today, a fact that has certainly won them their fair share of fans.

Next up are the Boston Red Sox, who were founded in 1901 and have played at the same stadium - Fenway Park - since 1912. Every one of their home games since May 2003 has sold out, proving their enduring appeal despite the fact that the team suffered a massive drought of titles between 1918 and 2004. The onset of this drought is often blamed on the sale of player Babe Ruth to the Yankees. However, they have gone on to become one of the most successful teams of the last decade.

The San Francisco Giants were originally from New York but they moved out to San Francisco in 1957 and have stayed there ever since. They have played at the AT&T Park since 2000 and are one of the oldest teams around. As a result they have won more games than any other US baseball team, which gives them significance. Part of the Major League, they won the baseball World Series in 2010 and are thought of very highly as a team.

The last entry on our list is the Atlanta Braves, who debuted in 1876 and have been based at Turner Field since 2007. In 1995 they won the World Series and, between 1991 and 2005 were one of the most successful baseball teams around. Their success in the 90s led to them sometimes been called the 'team of the 90s' or 'the Bravos'. They have a historic significance in US baseball as they are one of the two remaining charter franchises of the National League.
