Music Lessons For Kids - The Positive Effects

By Arnold Coleman

There are countless arguments on the effect of having music lessons in the improvement of IQ in kids. A study in the '90s claim that listening to Mozart classical music can increase one's spatial reasoning, causing mothers to believe that their infants will grow up smarter if they play classical music while they are sleeping. There are other studies about the matter that produced different results, although the perception these days is that music helps children become brighter that's why many moms and dads are giving their children music classes as early as possible.

Others disagree that it is not easy to gauge the progress of IQ by just throwing in music lessons to the children's curriculum since there are many variables that influence one's intelligence quotient. Just observing its impact to those who have classes in music will not ensure solid outcome. The children who have parents who can commonly afford music lessons most probably belong to the socioeconomic class that commonly has higher IQ average than the others who can't pay for the lessons. It may also be that kids are naturally in the age where they develop curiosity in a lot of things and expose their minds to knowledge.

So if the effects of studying music to kids's IQ are still debatable, why do we still have to give the kids music lessons? While the role of music in the progress of a child's general intelligence is not clear, its constructive effects are irrefutable.

For preschool kids especially, taking music training help focus their restless energy into something constructive. kids can find musical programs mentally and physically uplifting. They will be able to discover their surroundings through music, and will be able to take in details in an enriching and engaging way.

These music classes are usually intended as an early training ground for children to help them focus and learn to memorize before they begin attending school. The lessons are fun and lively, and can help develop their curiosity in music or even in other things also.

Some mothers and fathers think that music lessons at an early age can make their kids music sensations. However, it doesn't always work that manner. These programs don't necessarily make kids stars, but they do much more, like exposing kids to music, boosting their self-esteem, and helping them find their interest.
