If you are totally into sports, or even if you only have kept up with a few different types of sports from time to time, you have probably noticed that practically every sport comes with its own required gear, like karate weapons, boxing gloves, or a catcher's mitt. When people simply follow a sport to watch out for who wins or who loses, they can lose sight of what really makes the game what it is and what makes it different from everything else out there, and comparing the gear each sport uses is a good way of reminding yourself what makes each sport what it is.
One sport that calls for a long list of different pieces of gear is football, because football players are expected to have cleats, pants, a jersey, all sorts of different pads for superior protection, a mouth guard, a helmet, and more. Instead of thinking about that particular sport, you could think of a game that is entirely different, like the wonderful game of golf, but you will still see that there is a very extensive list of things that are required to enjoy that game to its fullest, from the clubs to the cart.
The differences in the equipment used in different popular sports may not seem like a topic that is very relevant to anything, but it is actually quite interesting when you consider that this equipment is practically the namesake of most sports. Every sport needs a basic objective and a means of reaching that goal in order to make it even slightly interesting, which is why golf courses have holes at every green and there is a goal post at each end of a football field.
How many occasions have you pondered what your favorite games would be played if they were given different equipment to play with, like volleyball with tennis nets? You may not be interested in watching a game of basketball if the players were trying to slam dunk footballs instead.
We should definitely attempt to appreciate the various types of equipment that are used to make up our favorite games and keep them going strong. I'm sure no one would like to see golf clubs replace karate weapons or baseball bats replace ping pong paddles, after all.
