A Lot Of Grooms Are Opting For Tungsten Carbide Rings On Their Wedding Day

By Darryl L. Pinto

A good number of grooms will go with the traditional 14-karat gold wedding band on their special day. In recent times, however, tungsten carbide rings have started to rival their 14-karat gold contemporaries on wedding day. Tungsten carbide is denser than titanium and steel and is an inorganic chemical compound that must be polished with abrasives that possess a superior hardness like diamonds.

As a viable gold alternative, the tungsten craze is catching on quickly. To find this tungsten fare, look no further than traditional storefronts or online. You'll find that they hold an alluring polished sheen and can be etched with detail and precision. You can even find a tungsten carbide ring that features quality diamonds or other precious stones. Now, the bridegroom's ring will elicit just as much curiosity as the brides. If not as much attention, the groom's ring will spark a lot of curiosity.

So, if you and your bridegroom will be buying a tungsten wedding band, there a few things you must know before you start shopping.

The first thing you want to be concerned with is that a tungsten ring should not use cobalt as its cohesive material. The human skin is delicate and when cobalt mixes with the oils on the skin this can be very problematic. This reaction causes serious skin irritation and can even cause permanent staining in the ring.

Second, when you're out shopping for a tungsten ring, make sure you ask about the binder that is used. You will want to search for rings that are using nickel as the binding material. An honest jewelry merchant will have no problem telling you which type of binding materials are used in their tungsten jewelry inventory.

The third thing you will need to do is make sure that you have the facts, and ignore jewelry retailers that perpetuate those ridiculous rumors about tungsten that have been floating around for years. I'm certain you've heard horror stories about men who were wearing tungsten rings that were unable to remove them in an emergency and ended up losing a digit. Nothing is further from the truth. Besides, they're probably trying to sell you something that is more traditional instead.

With all of the stress that comes along with wedding-day planning, our advice is to get your wedding ring shopping done early. And for those who are planning their wedding on a tight budget, tungsten carbide ring is reasonably priced. Do you really need a platinum, yellow or white gold wedding ring anyhow? A tungsten wedding band will look just as stunning as any other on your wedding day.
