If you have heard about Apple iPad, then you definitely know that it does not have flash. Nowadays a lot of people are talking about this since it is a big deal, especially to web developers, but the majority of those people never really sat down and thought about why. While you still could not agree with Apple reasoning their point of view, there are some reasons why there is no flash in iPad.
Primarily, keep in mind that even with flash a lot of websites would have to be redesigned. Another reason is that iPad as the iPod touch or iPhone run on batteries and flash is a memory hog. This means that it is a battery hog. And by forcing people to update to new tools you may build them more energy efficient and so cause battery life, not just in the iPhone and iPad to go up, but as well in other devices that use those websites.
The other reason is the most important to Apple - having flash on the iPhone breaks the app store. And the reason for this is easy. A web page with flash could do almost all the things you could do with the iPad programming language and whether you agree it is clear that Apple wants to control what apps are available on the iPad.
For some reasons in the past most technological devices went for the hard core group, tech heads, early adopters and gadget lovers, but this is a tiny amount of the market and as the Wii proved that making something simple and fun would work in video games, the iPad is going for the other market - market of people who do not know how to use a computer as well as do not care and one of the ways that have done that is by limiting choice.
